Paul Odom, age 70, passed away in his Reynoldsburg home on Monday, February 16th. Paul battled cancer 4 times throughout his life, successfully overcoming it each time. He also endured a battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis later in life. He ultimately succumbed to the results of end stage liver failure, more than likely a result from treatments and medications over the years.
Paul was born on November 13th, 1955 to mother Yvonne Odom and father William Odom. Paul was raised by his mother in Gahanna Ohio, along with sister Darlene Watts (Odom). Paul graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1973, where he played basketball. After high school, Paul went to work for The Purdy Company, where he stayed his entire career. When he wasn’t working at Purdy, he had his own gig mowing grass. As much as he complained about how fast the grass grew in the spring, or dealing with all the leaves in the fall, he loved every minute of it, and his customers loved him as well. When he wasn’t working, you could find him on the golf course with his friends and son, Christopher.
As much as he loved the game of golf, it was his second love. His first true love was his wife, Janelle. After being high school sweethearts nearly 50 years ago, Paul and Jenelle reunited 30 years later by complete chance, or possibly fate. Whether going to the local Blues Fest’s or concerts, or helping Jenelle plant her beautiful plants and flowers, all he wanted was to be with her. She was truly the sparkle in his eyes.
Paul was survived by his wife, Jenelle Odom. His son, Christopher (Jennifer) Odom, his grandson Lucas Odom, sister, Darlene (Danny) Watts, Step children Brett (Justina) Szecezpanski, Jessica Szecezpanski and, Chad Szecezpanski, and many other relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in the late spring/summer. Location and time are TBD
