Pauline R. Makris, 93, of Upper Arlington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 10, 2026, of natural causes. Pauline was born in Weirton, West Virginia, to George and Thespina Rozakis. Her family soon moved to Warren, Ohio, She graduated Warren G. Harding High School. Then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega Sorority. On August 24, 1957, Pauline married her soulmate, John E. Makris. They shared 63 loving years of marriage and built a beautiful life together centered around family, music, faith, and service. Pauline devoted more than 38 years to the Columbus Public School system. She taught third grade and, later in her career, served as a tutor to learning disabled students. Her dedication to her students and her love of education left a lasting impact on countless children and families. Music was one of Pauline's greatest passions. She was a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Choral Group and was aTWIGS (Together With Important Goals) volunteer throughout the 1970s and 1980s. She also served as Junior Choir Director and founded the Hellenic Singers as the Choir Director at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, where her love of music and faith brought joy to many.

Pauline is survived by her two sons, George Makris of Columbus and Thomas (Ellen) Makris of Cincinnati; and her adored grandchildren, Johnny, Mark, and Stephanie. Her most cherished moments were those spent with her beloved husband John, family, and friends. She will also be remembered for her love of writing and singing music, gifts that brought beauty and joy to those around her. Pauline's loving spirit, devotion to her family, and enduring faith will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 21, 2026 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Visitation will be from 9:30 am -10:30 am, with the funeral service beginning at 10:30 am, and interment at Union Cemetery, Rev. Fr. Demetrious Gardikes presiding.
