Pushpa Shivaprasad

Pushpa Shivaprasad was born on November 28, 1956 in Bangalore, India. She attended Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. She graduated in 1977 with Bachelor of Arts and a distinction in Kannada language studies.

Pushpa married Dr. Hullukunte Shivaprasad in 1978 and immigrated from India to join her husband in Mount Vernon, NY while he completed his medical residency. Pushpa and her husband moved to Dayton, Ohio where her first daughter Roopa was born. In 1982 the family moved to Bluffton, Ohio where her second daughter, Smitha was born. During her years in Bluffton, Pushpa enjoyed gardening and often made South Indian sour grape pickle from grapes she grew.

Pushpa moved to Bangalore, India with her husband in 1991. Here she was a skilled matchmaker, volunteering matrimonial services to the Lingayat community. She was a passionate cook and self-published a family recipe book. Friends and family share fond memories of enjoying the delicious meals she made. Pushpa appeared on Udaya Kannada TV channel’s cooking show, “Adige Aramane” (Kitchen Palace).

In 2004 Pushpa and her husband returned to the United States to be closer to their daughters. She lived a quiet life in Wheelersburg, Ohio and is survived by her husband, two daughters and four siblings. On April 1, 2024 Pushpa passed away peacefully at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice due to prolonged illness. At Pushpa’s request there will be no service. Interment will be held in a private ceremony with immediate family on April 10, 2024 at Union Cemetery (3349 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43202).
