Raymond Lawrence Voit Jr.

Raymond Lawrence Voit Jr., known to most as Larry (or LV, Bop, Papa, Pops, Uncle L), passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 84. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 26, 1941, Larry was the son of Helen Minerva (Crabbe) Voit and Raymond Lawrence Voit Sr. He lived a life marked by creativity, devotion, hard work, and service to others.

A proud graduate of Thomas Aquinas High School (Class of 1959), Larry made his mark as a tough defensive lineman on the football team, famous for his “leg whip” tackling style—a move as memorable as it is now forbidden.

On February 24, 1968, Larry married Ruth Ann, beginning a partnership that would last nearly six decades.

Larry began his professional life as a registered IBEW electrician, known for his work ethic, skill, and diligence. His passion for Corvettes led him to begin competitively racing in the late 1960s as a member of the Corvette Club of Ohio and the Midwest Corvette Team, participating in the IMSA and Mid-Ohio racing circuits alongside friends and teammates. He also owned Vette Limited, a Corvette customization, repair, and body shop. Over the years, Larry owned and swapped nearly 30 Corvettes, building lasting friendships within the racing community.

Larry was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed adventurous pursuits like water skiing with the Columbus Aqua Ski Club and was highly skilled at making stained glass—he could easily replicate the famed Tiffany lamp. His experience with Corvettes’ fiberglass bodies inspired him to found Voit Fiberglass Manufacturing & Repair, where his tinkering, building, and repair skills shone. Notably, in 1965, Larry made the fiberglass head for one of the first on-field Brutus the Buckeye mascots for The Ohio State University.

Larry’s biggest life-changing event was accepting Christ as his savior on Mother’s Day, 1980. Faith became a cornerstone of his life from that moment forward. Early in his faith, he served as a 5th grade Sunday school teacher at Christian Assembly in Columbus and, later, found fellowship at Northgate Church in Sunbury, where he experienced a meaningful baptism renewal in April 2025 and enjoyed close relationships with his church family. Larry had a passion for praying for others, and his relationship with Jesus grew ever stronger with age.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann; his children, Vanessa (Voit) Henning and husband Jed, with their son Holt; Seth Voit and wife Heather, with their sons Luke, Sam, and Max; and Zak Renzetti-Voit and wife Melissa Scalia. He also leaves behind his sister, Luann (Voit) Currier; his brothers, Joe Voit and Michael Voit, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Larry’s family and friends remember him as intelligent, sensitive, artistic, patriotic, and industrious. He was a modern-day MacGyver—able to fix anything, make something out of nothing, and always eager to help anyone in need. Larry was selfless and generous with his time and resources: faithful, witty, diligent, hard-working, strong both physically and in spirit, nonjudgmental, and deeply devoted to Jesus.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We take comfort in knowing that he is now celebrating with Jesus in heaven.
