Robert Alan Brileya Sr. 91 died surrounded by his family in Columbus, OH after a short illness. He was born in Whiting, Vt. on Feb. 18, 1935. He was the son of the late Gilbert and Leona(Allard-Jabot) Brileya. He graduated from Whitehall High School in 1953, attended Castleton State College and received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Adirondack Community College in 1981. He was also retired in 1981 as a Correction Lieutenant at Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, NY with 25 years of service during which he was an instructor at the Department of Correctional Services Training Academy in Albany for 3 semesters. Prior to this he worked in Allen's Orchard in Low Hampton, several farms in the Whitehall area, and several years at the Rutland Fair, and was caretaker of the North Granville Cemetery for several years. After his retirement he operated a successful used car dealership at his home for 15 years.
Robert married his high school sweetheart, the former Marilyn Tooley, on July 8,1956, and in 1958 they built a new home in North Granville where they lived for 40 years. In 1998 they moved to Granville Village. Since 1991 they had spent six months a year at their winter home in Winter Haven, FL where he was active as a member and officer of the Homeowner's Association and Social Club. He was an active member of the North Granville United Methodist Church serving as Financial Secretary, a trustee for many years, and general repairman, also a member of the former United Methodist Men's Club. A 50 plus year Granger having held many offices in Whitehall Grange #922 including Master, he served as New York State Deputy with his wife in 1966-67, and was a lifetime member of Pomona, State and National Granges. He was also a member of Phoenix Lodge F&AM and the Elks Lodge ,both of Whitehall, and a director of the North Granville Cemetery Association. He was a former member and treasurer of the North Granville Hose Co. His interests included working for his church, garage sales, playing bingo and cards, going to the casino, and most of all his two children and granddaughters, all of whom he was very proud.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Marilyn of 50 years, his brothers Donald, Wayne and Kenneth Jabot, Roger and Jack Brileya, his sisters Rita Patterson, Doris Atwood, Freida Beeman, Joyce Mattison, and Janet Gendreau. He is survived by his loving partner of 19 years Wanda Mills of Ohio and Florida, his son Robert, Jr. and companion Elsie Roycewicz of Fort Ann, NY and Sebring, FL, a daughter Edith Stevenson and husband Terry of Belleview, FL, brother Chester Brileya of Rutland, VT, granddaughter Kristen Connolly(James) and great grandson Quinn of Bozeman, MT. His two bonus granddaughters Stephanie Bauschard(Aaron) of Rochester, NY and Jolaine Wilson(Nick) of Ambler, PA., his bonus great granddaughters Angela and Stella Bauschard, Claire and Gwen Wilson. His sister in laws, Rayne Brileya, West Rutland, Vt, Donna Brileya, Davie FL, and Patricia Tierney of South Glens Falls, NY. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Wanda's children Jeffrey and Brian Mills of Florida.
There will be no calling hours at his request. Burial will be at a later date at North Granville Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
