Roger Morgan Jones

August 17, 1951 — June 17, 2025

Roger Morgan Jones, 73, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on June 17, 2025, at Kobacker House due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease following a delayed diagnosis.

For several years, Roger exhibited signs of cognitive decline, but a formal diagnosis came only late in the progression of his illness. His family hopes his story will serve as a reminder of the importance of early recognition, validation, and support for those experiencing memory loss and behavioral changes.

Roger was born on August 17, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio. He spent much of his life caring for others, training at St. Ann’s Hospital and working as a home health aide, physical therapy aide, and occupational therapy aide from the 1980s through the early 2010s. His work reflected his deep compassion and sense of service.

He had a lifelong passion for antiques—particularly antique weaponry—and a deep appreciation for martial arts. Roger was known for his unique perspective, quiet strength, and intellectual curiosity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Miranda Jones (Shoaf); his daughter Brianne Marie Jones and her spouse Kaitlyn McCune; his sister Patricia Jones; niece Tracy Saco; and nephew Jeff Atkinson and his wife Tammy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Marie Jones (Holanshed) and Richard Jones, and his sister, Maggie Atkinson (Jones).

Roger’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical team at OhioHealth Pickerington for finally taking the steps needed to understand his condition and provide a path forward. Deep gratitude also goes to the Palliative and Hospice Care teams at both OhioHealth and Kobacker House, who made his final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible—and gave him the priceless gift of being reunited with his beloved dog, Hershey.

In accordance with Roger’s wishes, no funeral will be held. His ashes will be spread in places he loved, and he asked that those who wish to honor his memory spend time with the people they love most.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Dog Shelter, the Humane Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association—organizations that reflect Roger’s values and the challenges he faced.
