It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Scott Elwood McCoy, who departed this world on March 12, 2026, at the age of 65. Scott passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his cherished family at OSU James Cancer Center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Scott was born on November 21, 1960, to Henry and Sylvia McCoy, who preceded him in death. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and kindness. Scott is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Ann McCoy, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love.
Scott and Ann’s union was blessed with three wonderful children: Adrian (Brandon) Smith, Eric (Jacquelynn) McCoy, and Jennifer (Robert) Fravel. His legacy continues through his five adored grandchildren, Shyanne and Logan Smith, Justin and Emma McCoy, and Lane Fravel, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim and Rick, and his sisters, Vicki and Lou, all of whom shared in the warmth of his unfaltering spirit.
For 40 years, Scott dedicated his career to the construction industry, where he was known for his exceptional work ethic and integrity. Outside of work, Scott found solace and adventure in the great outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he could often be found casting a line on the lake or patiently waiting in the woods. He never missed the opening day for turkey and deer hunting, a tradition he eagerly looked forward to each year.
Scott's constant companion on these adventures was his beloved dog, Wiggleworm. Their bond was as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly, and Wiggleworm was often referred to as his fourth child. Scott's contagious smile and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a man who was always there when needed, offering a helping hand and a kind word.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Scott’s wishes to be laid to rest in his favorite spot in the woods—a place where he found peace and joy, surrounded by nature's beauty.
Scott’s warm spirit touched the lives of many, and his kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. The presence he had in our lives was a precious gift, and the memories we hold will continue to inspire and comfort us in the days to come. Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated medical team at OSU for their compassionate care.
In honoring Scott’s life, we celebrate the love and support that surrounds us. Though he was never one to seek the spotlight, his legacy shines brightly in the hearts of those who knew him. We are beyond thankful and blessed for the outpouring of love and support we have received.
May Scott Elwood McCoy rest in peace, in the serene woods he loved so dearly, forever embraced by the warmth of our memories and the enduring love of his family.
