Sharon Lou Nutt

Sharon Lou Nutt, 76, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at St. Ann's Hospital, after a short illness. She was born April 3, 1949, in Ashland, Kentucky, the identical twin of her beloved sister Karen Lynn Nelson-Curry, who predeceased her in 2016. Attending North High School, and known back then as "The Nelson Twins," they graduated with the class of 1967.

Sharon was also preceded in death by her dear husband, Leo Joseph Nutt; beloved parents, James Edward Nelson and Elizabeth Janet (Baldridge) Taylor; two more precious sisters, Marta Gail Nelson and Jimmie Carol Nelson; and a treasured stepson, Mark Nutt.

Surviving is a cherished sister, Elizabeth Janet Hunter (Gustavo), and adored children Karen Hobor, Nikki Golden (Erik), Joel Nutt, and stepchildren Joseph Nutt, Lee Nutt (Donna), Susan Nutt, and Greg Nutt. Also surviving are many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She loved them all so very much.

Sharon was an avid genealogist who loved digging into a great family mystery - even if it wasn't her own family! Many a "brick wall" was toppled due to her hard work, tenacity, and genealogical expertise. For many years, she was a dedicated volunteer of the Magoffin County Historical Society in Kentucky, maintaining their website, and so much more.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sharon's memory to the genealogical society of your choosing, a no-kill pet shelter, or to cancer or heart research or patient services. It would also be a great tribute if you dig into your own genealogy; she believed that you know yourself better when you ponder the joys and struggles of your ancestors' lives.

Sharon chose to be cremated, and she did not wish to have a formal service, but something informal and joyous will likely be arranged.
