William R. Anders Jr.

William R. Anders Jr. (Bill), 76, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with prostate cancer.

Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 25, 1948, to Jean (Conner) and William R. Anders Sr. He grew up in Bay Village, Ohio, and graduated from Bay High School.

He attended The Ohio State University, where in 1970, he received a B.A. degree in Political Science. While there, he met Shirley in a botany class. They later married on January 23, 1971.

Bill spent his career in the insurance sales industry, beginning with State Farm and CNA before founding his own independently licensed agency, Columbus Brokerage Agency, in 1991. Jovial and never at a loss for words, Bill enjoyed the camaraderie with both clients and business associates, many of whom became treasured lifelong friends.

A natural coach and encourager, Bill poured his heart into his children’s lives—especially through sports. Whether on the field, the court, or at practice, he was always known simply as “Coach”—not just by his kids, but by countless friends and teammates who felt the warmth of his guidance and support. His steady presence, encouragement, and sportsmanship left a lasting mark on all who played under his leadership.

His heart for service extended beyond sports. A man of deep faith, he enthusiastically served as a Council Time teacher in Awana, sharing God’s Word with the next generation. God gifted him as a highly effective teacher, and his extensive knowledge of the Word of God was a blessing to many young lives.

In recent years, nothing brought Bill more joy than cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events. Whether in the stands or on the sidelines, his pride and excitement were evident to everyone around him. He never missed a chance to be present, to support, and to celebrate the people he loved most.

Bill lived a life of generosity and principle. He gave freely of his time, always ready to lend a hand, share a word of wisdom, or offer a helping heart. His legacy of love and service will live on in the many lives he touched.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and William R. Anders Sr., and his brother, Robert (Bob) Anders. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Dunbar); his three children, Moni (Mike) Carroll, Joel (Kathryn) Anders, and Jonathan (Lindsey) Anders; and his eleven grandchildren—Logan, Reagan, Isaiah, and Joshua Carroll; Declan, Camille, Bo, J.J., and Tess Anders; Hannah and Wyatt Anders. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda (Dunbar) Narney, and her husband, Rocky.

A Christian memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Royal American Links, 3300 Miller-Paul Rd, Galena, OH 43021.
