William Brakel

William Kenichi Brakel, age 37, of Columbus, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on March 6th 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 19, 1984. He graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 2003. He is survived by his father Arlo (Phyllis) and mother Kazumi (Norio); Siblings, Emi, Yumi (Carlo), Adam, and Ryan (Angie); His loving girlfriend Tesia and their cat Edgar; Nieces and nephews, Ezra, Alora & Anthony, Victoria & Katelynn; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. William is preceded in death by his grandparents Arley & Agnes, Miyo & Ed, and Tony & Joan.

Not only did William have a passion for the culinary arts, but he also loved political science, music, and martial arts movies. He was always willing to help his friends and family without consideration for himself. He is remembered as a compassionate leader, someone who took the time to listen, and cared deeply for those he worked with. His genuine humility, kindness, and quick wit was legendary. People gravitated towards him and he appreciated everyone in his life. He has made this world a better place for having been in it, and he will be missed dearly.

A celebration of William’s life will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Park of Roses Shelter House, 3901 North High Street, Columbus, OH from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in William’s name to the Ohio Restaurant Employee Relief Fund. Your contribution will make a difference in the lives of restaurant, foodservice, and hospitality workers who have been displaced due to COVID-19 and are struggling with meeting their daily financial needs.
