Dr. William Lloyd Washington passed away on December 3, 2025, at the age of 73 years old in Columbus, Ohio. He courageously battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia for a month at The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital before he transitioned peacefully into the next life, surrounded by loved ones.
Dr. Washington was born on March 17, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Eastmoor High School on June 19, 1970, and later pursued his passion for science at The Ohio State University. He began his professional career as a microbiologist at OSU before deciding to further his education in medicine. On June 9,1989, he earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from The Ohio State University.
As a board-certified family practitioner, Dr. Washington dedicated his life to serving inner-city communities. He owned and operated two medical practices - Linden Medical Center and Family Healthcare Center – providing vital healthcare services to the underserved populations. Throughout his distinguished career, he also served residents in multiple nursing homes. He was the Chief Medical Officer for both Heart of Ohio Family Health, as well as Outreach and Crisis Counseling Services at the time of his passing.
Dr. Washington was deeply committed to helping and teaching others. His selflessness, gentle spirit, and empathetic care were appreciated by both patients and colleagues. Though he was thoughtful and measured with his words—and often described as quiet—he enjoyed being around others and participating in social events outside of work. He had a wonderfully silly sense of humor and an infectious laugh that filled any room.
An avid athlete, Dr. Washington enjoyed playing tennis and competed in semi-professional tournaments during his spare time. In his younger years, he also played football and participated in recreational basketball. He remained a devoted fan of these sports throughout his life. He loved traveling with family to warmer destinations, especially Florida.
Dr. Washington is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Washington; father, Walter “General” Washington; son, Ian Washington; and brother, Winston Washington. He leaves to cherish his memory his significant other, Janet Green Marbley; daughter, Lindsey Traina (Alfonso); son, Jared Washington; granddaughter, Sofia Traina; grandson, Gianni Traina; brothers Walter “June” Washington, Lowell Washington (Cassandra), and Larry Washington (Tina); as well as a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was previously married to Donna James and Michele R. Washington.
