Connie Watson

December 28, 1945 — February 10, 2021

Connie Watson, age 75, went to Heaven to enjoy the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 10, 2021. She was born December 28, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Edwin and Wanda (Andrews) Walters. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother David Walters. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of almost 41 years Doug Watson; brothers Paul (Mai) Walters and Roger (Mary) Walters; children Paula (Bob) Shepherd, Andrea (Ed) Parker and Todd Burleson; grandchildren Jake (Elizabeth) Shepherd, Sam Shepherd, Nick (Laura) Shepherd, Aaron (Caitlyn) Shepherd, Connor Burleson and Joel Burleson;  6 great-grandchildren (Noah, Izabella, Cassandra, Josiah, Cora, Lydia).

Connie worked as a real estate agent for a few years and then as a Customer Service Agent with Burlington Air Express/BAX Global, retiring in 2002.  Doug and Connie were able to enjoy several years of retirement adventures but especially loved visiting the Gatlinburg area.  However, her true life work was her home and family.

Connie was a wonderful cook and fed her family well.  She loved to experiment with new recipes, pour over cookbooks, and watch cooking shows on TV.  No one who ever ate Connie's food will ever forget her Christmas-Day lasagna, summer-time potato salad, Thanksgiving pumpkin pie, and any time was a good time for her cream puffs.  She and Doug also loved to visit new restaurants all over the country, always trying to find those hidden gastronomic gems off-the-beaten-trail, BUT only if they passed her "parking lot" test (no cars = no good).

She also loved to decorate her home, experimenting successfully with different colors, textures, patterns, accessories, and themes.  Even though she wasn't particularly social-media savvy, Connie was definitely a Pinterest-person before Pinterest was popular!  Often when we would visit, we would find the furniture rearranged, new pretties sitting on the mantle, or a fresh seasonal wreath on the door.  Her famous line was, "Oh, I just wanted to change things up a bit."

Holidays were so special to Connie and she always went out of her way to make our get-togethers meaningful.  In addition to preparing yummy food and arranging beautiful décor, she loved to have Easter egg hunts and make Easter baskets, attend 4th of July parades, carefully shop for meaningful cards for every birthday and anniversary, but she really pulled out all the stops at Christmas.  Connie loved to give gifts -- lots of gifts, lots of gifts for Doug to wrap! (She even made sure that all the family pets received presents!)  She also made a point to give each of her children and grandchildren personalized Christmas ornaments every year.  Our family will enjoy those ornaments as reminders of of Connie's devotion to her family and attention to detail.

Connie loved flowers, birds, dogs, music, reading her Bible, devotionals and Guidepost magazines as well as the daily newspaper.  She enjoyed driving to find fresh peaches, picking up bulk spices in Amish country, and watching all her grandsons sporting events and concerts.  She was very patriotic and loved her country.  Doug was certainly the love of her life here on earth, but her highest and best love was for her Savior.  Before she died, she expressed her desire that we would all take care of each other after she was gone.  But her highest and best desire for her family and friends is that they would discover that the free gift of the Gospel is now at hand to all who believe, that each of us would accept and embrace, through faith and repentance, eternal life made available through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

On behalf of Doug and the rest of the family, we thank you for loving Connie over the years and joining us to celebrate her life. A memorial service for Connie will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 3:00 pm. with visitation 1 hour prior to her service at the Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes, Clintonville Chapel, 4341 North High St, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
