Harriet Brown

Harriet W. Brown, age 76, of Grandview Heights, Ohio passed away on a bright sunny Saturday, May 11, 2019. Born in Columbus, Ohio on March 12, 1943 she was the second daughter of John Winters and Kathaleen Swope Winters. She attended Grandview Heights High School, graduating in 1961 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University in 1965. She met her life long love Gerald Brown in Alaska in 1965 and on July 29, 1967 they were married at First Community Church in Grandview Heights, Ohio. They resided in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio then Frederick, Maryland before moving back to Grandview Heights in 1982. She taught for Columbus City Schools until 2001. Growing up in First Community Church, it held a dear spot in her heart. She was active in the First Community Church Women’s Guild where she held the position of President from 2006-2007 and was co-chair of the Guild Group RSZ since 2013. She was also active with Grandview Civics and CEA-R.

She is survived by her husband Gerald A. Brown, daughters Catherine (Robert) Dimes and Jennifer Woods. Grandchildren Nyla Woods, Townsend Dimes and Annabel Dimes. Sister Elizabeth (Clair) Weiss and nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Ella Dimes.

Family will receive friends at First Community Church 1320 Cambridge Blvd Columbus, Ohio 43212 on Saturday June 1 from 2-4 pm, per Harriet’s wishes, for an ice cream celebration social. A private graveside service will be held prior to the celebration.

Family requests in lieu of flowers to make donations to the Women’s Guild RSZ of First Community Church.
