Louise Smith

June 26, 1939 — December 28, 2018

Louise Roberts Smith passed away peacefully on December 28 following a September 2018 diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. Louise is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Lowell Smith and two daughters, Lisa (Swift) Zidar of Westerville and Patti (Scott) Simmons of Worthington along with 5 beloved grandchildren - John, Andrew (Bailey) and Katie Zidar, and Fisher and Tate Simmons. She also leaves behind half-sisters Sharon Zemenauskas, Susie (Dean) Harold, Daphne (Don) Newsome and half-brother Danny Roberts. Born in Penny, Pike County KY on June 26, 1939 to Clarence and Loretta Roberts, Louise spent most of her life in Columbus, Ohio. A job transfer took the Smiths to Houston in the early 70’s, with a very happy return to Columbus in 1986, just in time for the birth of her first grandchild. Louise was a 1957 graduate of North High School in Columbus. In her early years, Louise worked for the American Rose Society and the OSU Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. In 1966 she took a job at Lennox Industries in where she worked until her move to Houston. Upon her return to Columbus, she served as the secretary at Colonial Hills Elementary, retiring in 1998. An active member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, she enjoyed participating in the Ruth Circle as well as preparing meals for church events. She also gave many volunteer hours to the NNEMAP food pantry. The Smiths enjoyed traveling, both in the US and overseas. Of all the trips, three European river cruises were the most enjoyable, where they made lasting friendships. Louise’s greatest joy, however, were her 5 grandchildren to whom she gave her unconditional love and affection. Her generous, giving spirit will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Family will receive friends on Friday January 4 from 4-7 pm at MAPLE GROVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 7 West Henderson Rd Cols. 43214 where a memorial service will be held Saturday January 5 at 11 am with luncheon to follow. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the staff at Ohio Health Hospice and Kobacker House. Memorial contributions may be made to the NNEMAP Food Pantry (https://www.nnemappantry.org/)
