Ray Defenbaugh

August 5, 1935 — October 9, 2020

Ray Lewis Defenbaugh, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 9, 2020. He was surrounded by his family and pets including Benny, Leo and Mako his trusted loyal guard cats. He was born the second of four children of on August 5, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Grover and Helen (Fauble) Defenbaugh.

Ray worked at NCR (National Cash Register), Ohio Bell, and retired from AT&T after 28 years of service. He was a man of many interests and hobbies!  He enjoyed creating stain glass artwork, which he would gift to his closest friends and family. Ray also had an obsessive love of frogs, especially old cast iron doorstop frogs! Don’t ask why, we don’t know! Ray also loved to collect antiquated Coca Cola products, and he enjoyed showing his old Coke bottles to anyone who found them as interesting as he did. Ray loved taking trips to Steam Engine shows with his older brother Elton. He always came back with a smile on his face from these trips! Of all his favorite things to do though, his trips to Florida with his beloved wife Mary Ann probably ranked the highest. Ray loved walking along the beaches scouring the sands for sea beans and other mysterious objects that washed up on the beaches!

We love you dad! You will never be forgotten, and you will never be alone. You will always be loved, and you will always be remembered. It was a blessing to have you in our lives, and we will forever cherish our memories of you.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents Grover and Helen Defenbaugh. He is survived by his son Jason (Yulia) Defenbaugh, stepdaughter Janice (Mike) Christy, stepson Mark (Dawn) Layne, younger sisters Joy (Gary) Gardener and Sue (Tom Dickinson) Defenbaugh, older brother Elton Defenbaugh, grandchildren Nick, Sarah, Amber, and Maegan, nephews Jerry (Joan) Defenbaugh and Allan (Kim) Defenbaugh, brother-in-laws Bob (Karen) Dennis and Tom (Maggie)Bateson, as well as many other beloved friends.
