Steven Whalen

December 16, 1966 — May 26, 2021

Steven Paul Whalen, 54, of Upper Arlington, peacefully passed away on May 26, 2021 in the comfort of his home. Steven was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 16, 1966 to Fred Thomas and Nancy Ann. He was considered a Christmas present from his parents to his siblings! Steven graduated from Upper Arlington High School and became a painter by trade through Hooker Painting. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories of the “rich and famous” (we never made that list!). Steven was married to Sheri Raitz, they had 2 dogs who were their babies, that they adored and loved throughout their lives. Steven enjoyed his family and friends, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He extended his gentle spirit to both humans and animals. If you were blessed to be in his presence, you will recall that he never ceased to smile and chuckle during his conversations with you. Steve accepted all, and passed judgment on NO ONE. He was grateful for all tiny acts of kindness bestowed upon him, and without fail, inquired about the well-being of others (most emphatically about his mom). His love for dogs was a gift that benefited many- energetic dogs ran and played with him, lap dogs curled on his lap, and “spirited” dogs reclined at his feet.

Steve is survived by his ex-wife Sheri Raitz Whalen, mother Nancy Whalen, sister Pamela (Gregory) Felix, brother Kenneth Whalen, niece Katherine (Matthew) Gillaugh, nephews Matthew Felix, Daniel (Candice) Felix, and Kyle Whalen, and great nieces Abigail Gillaugh and Brooklyn Gillaugh.

Though he left our presence entirely too soon, he is whole, healthy and worry-free in his Father’s home. As his aunt expressed, his relationship with us is not gone, it has just changed.
