母亲周静娟，1936年2月27日出生于湖南湘潭，2020年11月4日逝世于美国俄亥俄州哥伦布，享年85岁。

母亲出生在一个书香世家，父亲周骏章，母亲颜碧荷。年幼时恰逢战乱，她常随父母四处逃难，生活艰苦动荡，在时断时续中完成了小学教育。中学先后在湖南岳阳中学和著名的周南女中读书，成绩优秀。1954年，母亲在长沙参加高考，第一志愿被清华大学电机系录取。母亲自幼兴趣广泛，在清华读书时，曾参加学校合唱团和清华女子排球队，大学生活过的紧张、丰富而又充实。

大学毕业时，正直国家开展轰轰烈烈的社会主义建设。母亲积极响应国家号召，于1959年和父亲主动放弃留京机会，一起奔赴边疆，进入内蒙古电力设计院工作。之后的二十多年，母亲把一生最好的时光献给了内蒙古的电力事业。

1982年，父亲因交通意外突然离世，这飞来横祸给母亲造成了终生无法愈合的伤痛。次年，母亲申请调离内蒙。几经周折，最后调入当时的北京华北电力设计院工作，直至1996年退休。

在华北电力设计院工作期间，母亲任劳任怨，兢兢业业，对工作认真负责，刻苦钻研技术，成为业务骨干。因此曾于1990、1994、1995三年三次赴莫斯科，代表单位参与两国合作谈判，以自己的专业知识和能力出色地完成了任务。这三次莫斯科之旅是母亲一生最美好的回忆。谈判之余，她和同事有机会饱览莫斯科的美丽风光，参观了红场、列宁墓、莫斯科大学、克里姆林宫大剧院等著名景点，还欣赏了歌剧，参观了美术馆，游览了涅瓦河.....这一切，对于读俄罗斯小说、唱苏联歌曲成长起来的母亲，无疑是一场文化盛宴，令她的俄罗斯情怀得到极大的满足。她曾以优美动情的笔墨，在《曾经的梦 ，曾经的歌》一文中，详细记录了这段美好经历。

1993年春，母亲第一次赴美，作为单位代表团中的技术顾问，与GE公司进行谈判。过后，她在小女儿的陪同下，游览了费城、华盛顿特区和纽约。

退休后，母亲有机会更多地从事她的个人爱好，除了前往国内、国外旅行，还参加北京老同学合唱团，每个周末都会和团友们一起练习，延续了她年轻时的爱好，并从中得到极大的乐趣。此外，她也积极参加体育运动，与邻居朋友们一起晨练，常常以优美的舞姿赢得大家的赞赏。退休后的母亲，生活更加多姿多彩。

2012年，母亲移居美国，开始了全新的生活。初到美国，年近八旬的母亲学习热忱依然不减，马上开始利用各种机会学习英文，并卓有成效，在短短几年时间就可以用简单英文和美国人沟通。同时，母亲也参加了当地的合唱团，广交朋友，积极参加当地社区的各种演出和文化活动。

母亲一生经历坎坷，体弱多病，但母亲吃苦耐劳，热爱工作，性格独立。无论在内蒙还是在北京，她在工作中绘制了许多蓝图。不仅如此，她也在内蒙古的工地上洒下过无数辛勤的汗水，让蓝图付诸实施，在事业上实现了自己少年时代的理想，为国家边疆的电气化建设奉献了自己的聪明才智。

在生活中，母亲兴趣广泛，热爱运动、音乐、旅行、写作、交友，利用一切机会积极扩展自己的生活领域，尝试各种新鲜事物，对世界保持着浓厚的好奇心和持久的关注。对于家人和周围的朋友，母亲总是细致周到，在生活工作各方面给予力所能及的关心和照顾，深得家人及朋友的尊敬和喜爱。

在这个非常时期，病魔夺走了母亲的生命。非常感谢Kobacker House临终关怀中心的完善照顾与看护，母亲走的安详、平静而又有尊严。
